River Abov
Nahal (River) Abov, one of the tributaries of the Nahal Hamar,
the river of Enzav which is in the heart of a nature reserve named after him (Nahal abov).
About River Abov:
The reserve is located about 5 km east of the city of Arad and covers 2000 dunams, along the entire length of the stream.
In the reserve springs the Ein Abov spring, so called because its water comes from a pipe (abov).
There is also a waterfall at a height of 20 meters in the reserve
And the most fascinating point of interest – Mitzpe Zohar,
which is 626 meters above sea level and overlooks the southern Dead Sea and Jordan.
About the River Abov route:
The beginning of the route inside Arad, on the road leading to the hotel complex in the east of the city.
We will go up a dirt road to Mitzvah Ofer Grani.
IIt is recommended to leave the car inside the city and leave on foot.
It is important to make sure to pick up at the end point, on road 258, 1.5 kilometers south of Hattarorim intersection.
The hiking trail begins at Mitzpe Zohar and from there you descend about 300 meters into Nahal Abov.
A short walk will bring us to the top of the waterfall and take us on the narrow path that bypasses the waterfall.
Note, here there is a short but dangerous section that requires caution.
We will continue on the path going down to the riverbed.
Around we see a lot of vegetation and an abundance of stones in the autumn season.
If we arrived right after the rainy season we could see a lot of water in the river bed, it dries up quickly right after the season.

In the middle of the route we will reach a sharp turn. Right after a large body of water and next to it is another waterfall 4 meters high.
100 meters before the waterfall we followed the path to the bottom of the waterfall where Ein Abov is located.
Later we will reach another waterfall and go down it with the help of iron handles set in the wall.
From there the path opens up and reaches the road.
The described route is suitable for families.
Another route to River Abov:
If you are more adventurous, you can start the route from Matzfar Gurni located in Arad.
From there, continue to the Kidod depot and from there go up to Route 31 via the Adom Jeep Trail.
Cross it and go up the Israel Trail – you will pass Rosh Zohar and Mitzpe Zohar and connect to the starting point of the aforementioned route.
Important Information :
River Abov route is suitable for families and children aged 6 and over.
Most of the route is exposed, so be sure to protect yourself from the sun and plenty of water for every hiker.
Entrance to the track is free and in every season.
